The European Commission has reported that Booking.com has committed to change the way in which it presents offers, discounts and prices to consumers in order to comply with EU consumer protections.
The commitment comes after discussions between the European Commission, national consumer authorities, and Booking.com.
The commitments should be put into practice by 16 June 2020 and include clarification around the offers and discounts available on the Booking.com platform, any price comparisons shown to consumers, whether sponsorship has caused a particular accommodation provider to appear at a particular level in the rankings, and clearly showing the total price a consumer will have to pay, including any fees, taxes etc.
Ongoing monitoring will be carried out by consumer protection authorities to ensure that Booking.com complies with its commitments.
