The UK Competition and Markets Authority (“CMA”) has today published a Notice of intention to accept modified commitments from Google in its Privacy Sandbox investigation (the “Notice”).
The Notice follows a consultation on proposed commitments published in June 2021. The modified commitments include substantial amendments to those original proposals, and the Notice provides the CMA’s provisional view that the modified commitments may address the CMA’s competition concerns in relation to Google’s Privacy Sandbox.
The Notice requests responses from stakeholders as to whether the modified commitments are appropriate by 5pm on 17 December 2021.
Preiskel & Co is advising Movement for an Open Web (“MOW”), whose November 2020 complaint about Google’s Privacy Sandbox saw the CMA open an investigation in January 2021.
The CMA’s Notice and consultation can be found here.
MOW’s initial press release can be found here.
Please contact Tim Cowen if you have any questions relating to the Notice or the MOW project.
