According to Politico, after further drawbacks experienced by the draft legislative package in the third informal trilogue, on June 12 a breakfast meeting with EU telecoms ministers was held in order to overcome the impasse in roaming charges and open Internet access matters.
From discussion held earlier in June, it seemed clear that the Council of the EU pushed to postpone the abolishment of roaming charges within European Union and there was no strict rules on net neutrality nor its scope.
Meanwhile certain European consumer groups are putting forward a petition to be supported by consumers for ending roaming charges in the European Union.
It remains now to see whether the Latvian presidency would be able to achieve any second reading agreement on the Connected Continent proposal ahead of the European Council meeting of June 25 and 26, before leaving the matter to its successor, Luxembourg.
