Daniel Preiskel was a judge on the ‘Telecoms Oscars’ Global Carrier Awards at Capacity Europe in Amsterdam

November 10, 2014By Preiskel & Co

Daniel Preiskel was a judge on the prestigious telecoms industry Global Carrier Awards at Capacity Europe in Amsterdam, dubbed the ‘telecoms Oscars’ in some quarters.

Over 30 awards were collected by some of the industry’s leading names in front of an audience of 350 during the black tie event.  From cloud through to LTE and SDN, awards were given for a wide range of innovations, highlighting a hugely successful 12 months for the wholesale telecoms market.

Deutsche Telekom BDI emerged as winner of Best technology innovation for its LiveStream platform, which has enabled the multi-source transport of high-definition video content over the public internet.

Picking up Best product innovation was Verizon Global Wholesale with its Verizon Optical Networking Ethernet Aggregation port project, which has successfully met the demands of its carrier Ethernet customers.

Meanwhile, Ascom collected the prize for Best service innovation for its B2BSimpleX platform, and Hutchison Global Communications won the Best cloud innovation award for its ibizCloud platform.

The ever-popular and longstanding Best wholesale carrier category saw two carriers emerge triumphant in the Best global wholesale carrier categories.

Orange collected the prize for Best global wholesale carrier – voice, for launching a number of new innovative voice services in the last 12 months, while NTT Communications collected the prize for Best global wholesale carrier – data, for the investment and rapid expansion of its global Tier-1 network.

Competition was extremely tough in the Project of the year award category this year and so special mention must go to Pacnet for collecting the prize with its SDN-based Network-as-a-Service platform. As a first mover in the SDN space, the judges were particularly impressed by the speed and execution of the project.

Special mention must also go to Marc Halbfinger, CEO at PCCW Global, and Brian Fitzpatrick, CEO at Vodafone Carrier Services, for collecting the Executive of the year award for industry contribution and Executive of the year for leadership, respectively.
