Daniel co-founded the firm over 20 years ago and is a Band 1 Chambers & Partners ranked telecoms lawyer. He is the current holder of the European Telecoms, Media & Entertainment Lawyer Lexology Award and has over 30 years’ experience working in the telecoms, media and technology sectors, advising across the globe. He has been ranked for about 25 years in major independent research guides as one of the world’s leading communications lawyers, including as a Global Thought Leader by WhosWholegal (now Lexology). He is particularly recognised for his international commercial, corporate and regulatory work in these sectors, leading an international team advising clients on complex issues throughout the world and into space. Highly regarded in the telecoms industry, he has been for some years a Judge on the industry’s most prestigious Capacity Awards and was on the Mobile Ecosystem Forum EMEA Board. He represents companies throughout the telecoms ecosystem, including governments, communications regulators, MNOs, MVNOs, eSIM providers, telecoms big data companies, a ‘Silicon Valley giant’ on telecoms, a major Ai provider, IoT suppliers and customers, resellers and hosted telephony providers as well as other law firms on telecoms.
Daniel also possesses expertise in advising on satellite issues, including being external counsel to a satellite regulator and leading an international working group of satellite lawyers which he hosts in his metaverse office. Additionally, he is well-versed in navigating complex issues on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things/Machine-to-Machine (IoT/M2M), with a specific focus on connected cars.
He is a regular speaker at, and has chaired various important international telecoms conferences including at Mobile World Congress, GCCM and Capacity Europe as well as at lawyer conferences such as ITechLaw, IBA and MBL. He also provides telecoms regulatory advice to the following industry associations: CommsCouncil UK, MEF and FCS. He also advises communications providers on GDPR, data retention and privacy, surveillance, interception and encryption issues as well as on international acquisitions.
The Chambers UK guide, where he is ranked in Band 1 and has been ranked for some 25 years, states that “Daniel Preiskel is regarded as “the man telecoms companies turn to for strategic advice thanks to his “grassroots understanding of the industry””.
Previous experience includes working as an investment banker in Deutsche Morgan Grenfell’s telecoms team and heading telecoms and technology departments at two City law firms.. He has also worked in the European Commission’s Competition Directorate on anti-trust matters in the telecoms sector. In addition to his broad range of Telecoms & Tech sector clients, he advises companies in a range of sectors including film, the video games industry, fashion and CleanTech/Clean Energy.
Danny is a Board Trustee of the 100 year old educational charity, The English Speaking Union, whose mission is “to give young people the speaking & listening skills and cultural understanding they need to thrive”
Danny is the annual author of the Preiskel’s Chambers & Partners Telecommunications chapter on the European telecoms market and significant legal developments for the last year, which can be seen here. He is also the author of the annual Chambers & Partners Expert Guide to UK Space Law.
He has a MA in law from Cambridge University (Jesus College), speaks seven languages and has passed the SFA investment banking exams.
