The UK Government has announced that it is establishing an expert panel led by Jason Furman, Harvard Professor and economic adviser to former US President Barack Obama, in order to examine the impact of digital technology companies on competition and consumer behaviour.
The announcement was made along with the publication of a government report on the value of data, which cited evidence that data-driven technology could be worth £60 billion to the economy by 2020.
The issues posed by digital technology and potential reforms to address them are set out in Technopoly, a paper co-authored by Preiskel & Co’s Tim Cowen. Please contact Tim if you have any questions regarding these developments.
